Every year, April 2nd is World Autism Day. And in that week - and really, the whole month - it's time to celebrate Autism Acceptance!
Back in 2008 the United Nations started promoting public awareness and acceptance of autism, addressing global efforts on research and activities enhancing acceptance of the diversity within autism.
What used to be a time for autism awareness has developed into autism acceptance, because that's what is needed for a world that makes autistic people feel welcome, supported and safe. For related events, news and information in the Netherlands, check out De Nederlandse Vereiniging voor Autisme (NVA) and the Female Autism Network of the Netherlands (FANN).
From the focus on emotions lab, you might be interested in our recent research on friendships and autism, poster prize at the National Autisme Congres 2022, and the debate evening at the Autism Cafe Leiden (March 30th), which will be joined by Carolien (you can attend - no signup needed). If you are over 16, autistic, use Whatsapp, and have 10 minutes to spare, consider taking part in our emoji research project.
