Islam Bouzguenda is an architectural engineer and smart cities researcher. She researches the effect of utilizing smart cities technologies to design with and for vulnerable citizens. She utilizes 3D virtual reality technologies, interactive architectural design and planning to foster the engagement of vulnerable citizens in city planning. Hence, fostering their interaction within the designed space poses a positive effect on their social sustainability. Previously she obtained a Ph.D. in Environmental Analysis and Regional Planning and a Master in Smart Cities from Universitat de Girona. Islam is a lecturer and researcher in smart cities governance and planning at the University of Twente.
