May 27th marks the start of our data collection in Beijing, China, in collaboration with the China Rehabilitation Research Center for Hearing and Speech Impairment. The test battery that has been proven useful in examining social-emotional development in Dutch and Portuguese children will now also be administered in China to help us understand the effects of culture.

In the kick-off meeting organized by Director Wei Liang and Director Liyan Wang, teachers in the center gathered together to receive their training. The teachers discussed the arrangements of data collection and learned about the administration of the test battery from Yung-Ting and Shannon. In September, we will also test typical-hearing children, in collaboration with Prof. Yifang Wang at Capital Normal University, Beijing, China. We expect these collaborations to provide a new, cross-cultural perspective on emotional development and social inclusion for children with and without hearing loss.
